2009 - Year in Review

As 2009 comes to a close I've been thinking back on the season that was. I thought 2009 was a fantastic year for Canadian Scottish Heavy Events. We saw some exciting growth, both in terms of competitions and competitors. There is no doubt we have bigger things to come.

My top 5 highlights of 2009 were:

5) Participating in the 2009 CSAF Canadian Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick and seeing the organizers do whatever it took to pull this event off, even in the face...

2010 Antigonish Highland Games - New Date

Please note the 147th edition of the Antigonish Highland Games will be held from July 9-11 to this year. The change in dates will better allow the Antigonish Highland Society to implement some exciting plans as we approach the 150th anniversary of the games. This move would not have been possible without the support of the Halifax Highland Games who graciously agreed to swap weekends with Antigonish.

The 2010 heavy events competition will feature an All-Canadian invitational. More...

CSAF on Facebook?

Considering it has been almost 3 weeks since the last post of a very lively discussion on what constitutes a legal heavy events competition, and since we as a national athletic association appear to have nothing else to discuss besides Dean's kilt search, no offense to Dean of course, I thought it might be wise to wade into the whole Facebook area to ask when/if the CSAF Executive have discussed the creation of a group on Facebook to bring together heavy events athletes from across Canada...

Hello all,

I'm in the market for a new kilt and wanted some advice from the seasoned guys.

When I bought my first kilt I was a little naive about the clans etc. and basically I just tried to find one that fit. Now that I've spent a couple of years in this sport and I plan to compete more in the future, I'd like to get a kilt for the appropriate clan. I've started to do a little research and I've found sport kilts for $150 and I've found 8 yard...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd like to introduce the first implement to come from Legendary Strength...

This is my design for an adjustable throwing weight for Highland Games heavy athletics. This weight design uses a plate loading system, that will replace virtually any weight from 14# up to 56# and even all the way up to 76#,...

Dear Heavies,

The discussion is good, and I am glad to see we are remembering we are all in this together. I had not intended this to be the most popular thread in recent history, more of a chance to figure things out. So far, nobody has suggested caber estimations are OK... so we are good on that. We need to ensure they are legitimate weights from scales!

How about the Games for which we have the discussion. I see strong support from the 2 regional associations to...

Unusual Results - Action Required

Dear Heavies,

I have received concerned emails and noted some discrepancies of my own with regards to several sets of results. CSAF does in fact have an expectation that results need to be generated from legitimate Games. We at one point in the past have interpreted that to be competitions in Piping, Dancing, Athletics and the relevant cultural aspects to be the required elements. We would also expect at least 5 of the core events...

Data Entry

Hello all,

I've been doing a lot of data entry for some of the games in the area and I find that many times I can't enter the appropriate sheaf information because the default is for 20 lbs.

I can't speak for everyone but at least in the amateur division in Ontario most of the time it's a 16lb sheaf. Could the data entry be changed so the sheaf is variable (like stone or caber entry) where we actually enter the wieght of the sheaf as well as the height....
