It was incredible to see Zolk rip that WOB. I predict he'll go 19+ before this season ends.

Today was by far the best show ever hosted by the Antigonish Highland Games, and I say that with the 2003 World Championships in mind. ALl athletes arrived in Nova Scotia on Wednesday and slept off the jetlag. Thursday afternoon we travelled to beautiful Antigonish County for an all you can eat steak and lobster dinner hosted at the executive home of one of our sponsors. Later that night all athletes were introduced to a raucaus crowd at the Highland Evening whiskey tasting fundraiser at Piper's Pub. Friday was met with appearences at Columbus Field for the Canadian Junior Championships and a community meet and greet, and meal, at Boston Pizza. Later Friday, all athletes were officially introduced by David Webster at the Concert Under the Stars, the opening of the Antigonish Highland Games. Today was day 1 of competition that saw Sean Betz break the field record in the 23.2lb braemar stone, I snagged the field and Canadian record in the heavy weight, Lyle BArron continue his dominate hammer throwing with a 112'+ for first place in the HH, Larry Brock turning a monster caber and of course Zolk's heroics in the WOB. The entire town of Antigonish is buzzing and my cell phone has been ringing off the hook with people sending their congratulations.

The IHGF recognized the efforts of my Dad and our organizing committee with a special presentation that was truly thoughtful. We also started a new tradition in Antigonish with an official toast to the caber, video to follow.

Day 2 will bring the 17.2lb open stone, the 28 and 16lb hammer. We'll also be throwing the sheaf and challenge caber as non-scored, prize-only, events.

I'll try to sneek in an update after Day 2 before my flight to Scotland late tomorrow night.

p.s - The 56lb WFD was weighed and certified by Francis Brebner at 56.1lbs. The 56 WOB was weighed and certified at 57.3lbs by head official Leo MacDonald. So the records stand!
