Seeing as Hadley/Ogie/Frame are airborne to Manitoba, to the best of my memory I'll drop the highlights (and they are, in a word, severe). Correct me if
I'm wrong.
Braemar 23lb- Unremarkable. It was early and wet. Hadley may have won this. May. Open 18lb - Remarkably poor for the upper end guys until the third round, trapezoid wasn't flying. Won by Doherty, low 47'? 56 WFD - Hadley won with 44 and change, fouled a 46'10 in extras. All downhill from there. 28 WFD - Lyle Barron goes 83' and change. Wham. 22lb HH - Lyle Barron goes 113' and change. Uh-oh. 16lb LH - Lyle Barron goes 140 and change... 6" change to be exact. New Canadian Record pending weight on the postal scale. Pretty to watch. And it's only July 1. Hadley 127, Doherty 122, Frame 111 looking much better. 56 WFH - Danny Steele PB at 13 - Jumped excessively in celebration, Al Mac Farlane PB at 14 - Jiggled excessively in celebration. The big boys all stall out at 16 foot, they all took one more attempt each and Lyle worked out his angle for the win. Doherty and Frame tie for third. Caber - 20', honest 100lb - Flipped by Hadley, Frame, Doherty, Barron. The former two rush off to catch a plane, the latter two take shots at the 21'10", 127 pounder but the tanks are empty. Barron wins on degrees. The Overall is a Mystery, the scorer skedaddled sharply. It was closer than the above would have you realize I bet. My Votes Athlete of The Day - Pfft, Barone I guess. Best Hammer Technique - Undoubtedly C.J. Robichaud. All he has to work on is not being 19 years old and 210lbs, and that bugger will fly. Best Painful Grimmacing - The Crimson Dynamo Craig MacDonald. Get better buddy. Worst Announcing Shift - Tie for Adam Ogilvie's loose tongue and Al Mac Farlane's constant lack of breath during caber rounds. We mutilated a megaphone with tacky today. It was comical at first, but then mostly sad. Most Inspiring - During tear-down, retired OSHA Head Judge Wilfred Austin carting around 56s with his cane and third artificial hip, smiling all the way. Thanks go out to Phil Fraser and Dave Austin for the judging, Michelle Keizer for the scoring, Jerry for having us, and Pugwash for trotting out a solid crowd that stayed all day through 9 events. Now run along and watch small explosions aloft. Happy Canada Day everyone. |
